Fiscal representation

excent is a federally recognised tax representative and also supports your company competently in all tax matters.

With the exception of liability for tax liabilities and payment of tax liabilities, excent assumes the duties of the taxable person.

What companies are required to register in Switzerland?

Companies domiciled abroad that provide services in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein from 1 January 2018 in accordance with the revised Value Added Tax Act and generate annual taxable turnover worldwide in excess of CHF 100,000.

This applies to all companies in all sectors and industries.

Not affected, however, are foreign companies that only supply electricity and natural gas in pipelines to taxable persons within the country. As well as providing telecommunications or electronic services to non-taxable recipients. Such electricity and gas suppliers do not have to register as a taxable person within Switzerland.

Taxes must be paid by anyone running a business offering professional or commercial activity on a remunerative basis and under his or her own name. This also applies to companies domiciled abroad, but doing business in Switzerland.

In summary, VAT applies. The reporting requirement for foreign companies is as follows:

  • When a company performs work in Switzerland
  • For activities actually carried out in Switzerland
